Why Is Everybody So High On Prospect Clowney?

If you’re a recruitnik, you already know all about Jadeveon Clowney.  You’ve read the chatter, heard the legend and seen the highlight videos.  If you’re not a recruiting geek — and we use that term affectionately — then you might not understand why there’s so much talk about the 6-6, 250-pound defensive end from Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Take a look at this video and it’ll become clear to you:

Uh, yeah.

Clowney is expected to make his choice of schools known on national signing day.  South Carolina and Alabama currently lead LSU, Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina according to most sources.

If Alabama lands Clowney it will be business as usual in Tuscaloosa… yet another athletic stud for Nick Saban to toy with.

But if Carolina can land Clowney, well, that could be a gamechanger (not to be confused with the film of the same name starring Saban).  In the span of two years, Steve Spurrier could bring in Marcus Lattimore for his offense and add Clowney to his defense.   Can Carolina ever really turn the corner and compete consistently for SEC titles?

With those two… they just might.

That’s what makes him a much bigger “get” for the Gamecocks than for the Tide.

He is playing against guys that will be working at Taco Bell next year. La'el Collins dominated Clowney in the Army All-American game until he got hurt. He is not nearly as impressive against real competition because he has ZERO skills other than the speed rush. Go to Bama so Collins can dominate him the 3 years!

Or...He could go with the team that beat Alabama - LSU. He could then play with a better defense than Alabama's and play for a classier coach - One that won't run out the door when the dollars are being waved atround!

Thank you Bob! Very well said! Sorry man, cannot stand Alabama or anything about them. I guess that's the Tiger in me. Actually, the Tide are so arrogant, it's sickening!

You guys all hate Alabama because you are jealous haters!!! Your teams suck and you know we are going to rule you for years to come. You confuse confidence with arrogance and trust me confidence isn't something Auburn people would know ANYTHING about!!! @Bob-And to you LSU fan, GET OVER IT, we stole your coach and you are still BITTER, you were kissing his ass when he won you that National Championship. How many National Championships have you won since he left??? Oh that's right, NONE, hahahahaha!!! Have we won one? YES!! Auburn even kicked your ass and won one, hahahahahaha!!! ROLL TIDE!!!

I really don't think that Clowney would add to the Gamecocks an ounce more than the Crimson Tide. I believe he would be a great football player on South Carolina's team but would be beyond great on the Alabama team. Clowney won't have to do all of it on his own at Alabama so his sacks will double over the number he could attain at South Carolina. Clowney would also go down in that great history and tradition of the greatest football program on the face of he earth and be a standout part of the legend of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

If Clowney is thinking of the past, present, and the future, he should go where the better and the best go and that's Tuscaloosa, AL.

You can always tell a Tide Fan. Everything is greater in Alabama. Whatever! I hope South Carolina gets him and he's the one that beats them next season. I hate the Tide and it starts with their arrogance! Get Real! Your Tide are not the only team in the world....but then again, if you are a Tide Fan, you don't have much of a world, do you?

How idiotic, of course we say everything is greater in Alabama because we love our state and we love our football team. So I guess you don't think your football team is that good and you don't love your state. Funny how all LSU and Auburn fans can do is obsess about how much an Alabama fan thinks about Alabama??? Hell yeah I love The Crimson Tide and OF COURSE I think we are the best team in College football, it's called having a winning attitude you idiot! Something you apparently know NOTHING about!!! Roll TIde

First off i know Alabama has a wonderful history in college football. Secondly LSU has an amazing defense and already has what is going to be one of the greatest d ends in the sec there in my friend sam montgomery. I disagree with Bill though on the have to do it all part though. South Carolina returns Devin Taylor a First team all sec and then factor in travian robertson and kelcy quarles the second best player outta juco. Clowney will not have to do it all if he did carolina wouldnt be picked to be the second best dl in the whole country next year bama being 6 and lsu 4 so lets be realistic before we say things we dont know anything about where ever clowney goes he will be a legend. whether its lsu bama usc or even coastal carolina he will dominate and his talents will be shown.

@ BILL You make a great point! Coach Spurrier is an Offensive Coach. Coach Saban is a Defensive Coach and a good one. Jadeveon would get a three head start learning how the pros play defense. That's not to say that all pro coaches come from the same mold. They do pickup on the successes of other pro coaches have by studying game film. Termonology for each coach is different. Look at the coaching position names for Coach Spurier on the Game Cocks web site then look at the position coaches titles on rolltide.com. Both Spurrier and Saban coached at the pro level and the college level. This is a simple example of different terms, when you get into 'O' playbooks and 'D' playbooks they can be very different in terminology. Luckily there are still only 11 players for a team on the field at a time, and so the nichol and dime are the same for all teams. I THINK! ROLL TIDE

To watch this "tour de force' of the highlights of Jadeveon Clowney on the field were eyeopening and astounding. He has superb athletic ability. That transcends to both sides. It is hard to say where a coach will place him. We hope he is able to shut out the hype and go where it is best for him to display his talents, to earn a good college degree and mature into a good man. These latter things are much more important, though most would emphasize his football talent. We hope our alma mater LSU would gain him as a student and athlete, but no matter where he goes, we wish him the very best.

Maybe it's just me.. but dose Clowney seem to be 50lbs heaver then his team and his opponents. We'll just have to wait to see how that translate on the field with guys twice his size.
