Paper Lays Out Candidates For LSU’s OC Job

With Gary Crowton moving from LSU to Maryland, Les Miles has an offensive coordinator slot to fill.  Considering LSU’s facilities, recruiting base and returning roster, he shouldn’t have a hard time finding someone to say “yes!”

The folks at The Baton Rouge Advocate have put together a list of possible replacements.  Those coaches are as follows:

* Cam Cameron, offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens — The paper points out that he was a former Michigan aide along with Miles and that he “runs a pro-style, run-first offense,” which Miles is a fan of.

* Jim Chaney, offensive coordinator at Tennessee — Interestingly the paper claims he “leans toward a strong running game,” but a check of his career stats (at Purdue, then at UT) shows that Chaney has actually been a pass-first kind of guy.

* Dan Hawkins, former Colorado head coach

* Dirk Koetter, offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars

* Steve Kragthorpe, former Louisville head coach

* Steve Logan, running backs coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — He worked with Miles as an assistant at Colorado and uses “a run-first offensive scheme.”

* Todd Monken, receivers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguards — He also worked for Miles including two seasons at LSU.

* Doug Nussmeier, offensive coordinator at Washington

TCU co-offensive coordinator Justin Fuente has also been mentioned in connection with the LSU opening.  Ditto Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst who really uses a run-first system.

TigerBait.com — the Rivals site covering LSU — also tosses out the names of Jim McElwain of Alabama (not likely, lateral move) and Paul Petrino of Illinois (who left his brother’s Arkansas program before the 2010 season).

What about Frank Scelfo. He was the OC at Tulane and is the same now at Louisiana Tech. He was extremely impressive against LSU when they played. He's also a Louisiana guy. From New Iberia.
