Jones’ Aunt Says Terrence Can Take Calipari’s Potty Mouth

On Tuesday, John Calipari was caught by ESPN cameras telling freshman Terrence Jones that he was (and is) a “selfish mother…” shut yo mouth!

Yesterday, UK’s coach apologized for his use of bad words via Twitter and Facebook.

Now we learn that Jones’ aunt had no problems with the coach’s language.

“I don’t have any worries about it.  Terrence can take it,” Ava Mashia said.  “(Jones) sees (Calipari) as a person who’s trying to help him.  That’s (Calipari’s) method.  That’s the way he talks to everybody on the team.”

Gasp!  Record scratch!  Tires screech!

You mean this wasn’t just a one-time thing?  Egads.

“It looks like he’s picking on Terrence,” Mashia added.  “But I think it’s because he knows Terrence has a skill-set he can probably bring to the table that the coach isn’t seeing.”

While Mashia, a former college basketball player herself, understands the situation, she said her family still wasn’t thrilled by it.

“We hate to see it happen.  But we see what Coach Cal is saying, as well.  Yes, there are some things Terrence needs to work on.  I’m sure Terrence sees it, as well.  He’s trying to make him a better player.  I don’t think he’s doing it to embarrass him.”

Sounds like a woman who understands how coaches talk to players.  Any of you ever been in an arena to see the archangel Mike Krzyzewski coach?  I have.  Talk about language.  It’s like Ralphie Parker’s dad battling a furnace.

I’m guessing Calipari would agree with Mark Twain’s famous statement: “Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.”

Having a freshman take a last-second shot when you’ve drawn up a play for someone else might be just that kind of circumstance.

This should not be a big deal. Have you guys seen the video of Muschamp when he coached for Auburn (I believe)? He goes much more overboard with the F-bombs. This guy is 18 and I doubt he would have reacted any differently if Calipari had called him a "selfish son of a gun" or something like that. As long as the player is fine with language like that, it shouldn't really matter.

if you knew anything about coach k, youd realize he is just as foul mouthed on the court as calipari or his mentor, bob knight. how coaches conduct themselves during high intensity basketball games that generate millions in revenue for their respective schools does not reflect on them as individuals. Once they are off the court both calipari and coach k are model individuals.

Please do not compare Coach K with Calipari unless you have something you can post on You Tube to show Coach K foul mouthing a player on national TV in an actual game. And Coach K does not have an asterisk beside his name and school he has represented. Coack K does not have the stigma of a cheater.

Calipari gets paid $400,000 by the University. The rest of his money comes from endorsement deals which total about $3.5 million or better per year. UK's athletic department is one of the very few in the country that sustains itself with minimal to no money taken from the University. Also, you should watch a Duke game or any other team for that matter. Coach K lets the F bombs fly! You better believe it. How about that for a "glorified higher institution of learning"!

Calipari really speaks for the University of Kentucky as their representative.

Kentucky faculty, students, and alumni really have a lot to be proud of.

When this kind of behaviour is glorified/allowed by higher institutions of learning like the UK, we can expect society to continue to stay in the gutter and get worse.

Calipari get's paid how much money by the students, State of KY, etc?
