Auburn Didn’t Give Cecil Newton A Ticket To BCS Title Game

On Monday, Jay Jacobs said that Cecil Newton and Auburn had agreed that he had best not attend the BCS Championship Game out of respect for his son.

But after the game, a photo captured Cam Newton hugging his father.  The embrace came after the younger Newton had scanned the crowd for his dad.

Three Auburn fans have already emailed to say that they saw Cecil watching the game at a nearby hotel.  Interesting that I’ve gotten three emails and one posted comment on this topic, but none of those folks chose to mention the name of the hotel where they spotted Cecil.  Nor do they explain how the man got from the hotel to the stadium (and into the stadium) so quickly after the game’s climax.

Whether Tiger fans support Cecil/Cam or not — and the vast majority do — the elder Newton has once again left Auburn’s PR wing in a lurch.  On a day when Auburn staffers should have been answering questions about victory parades and interviews, instead they were having to answer questions about Cecil.

And according to AU staffers, the school didn’t provide Newton with a ticket to the game.  And athletic department officials did not expect him to attend the game.

The NCAA told Auburn that it should allow only limited access to Cecil after learning that he had asked Mississippi State representatives for cash.  Sneaking into a game to watch his son win a BCS title shouldn’t be considered a violation of that “suggestion” as far as MrSEC.com is concerned.

But this incident once again proves that the elder Newton is a loose cannon and that AU officials — if you believe them — really have no idea what he’s going to do from one minute to the next.

If his son were a backup kicker, Tiger fans would want this guy run out of town on the proverbial rail.  But since his son is the best player in the land, some instead offer up more defense of Cecil.  Even though he put Auburn officials in a bad light.  Again.

Let me tell you from personal experience... When colleges are trying to recruit you, you know about everything going on. They DON'T contact your parents and talk to them. They're only aloud to contact you every few days. No one is going to say, "Dad, just talk to all the schools and tell me which one YOU want me to go to. I'll have nothing to do with it". If you believe that your an idiot... or got your education from Auburn.

First off, the bama folks here still butt hurt over the IB loss and Auburn's NC need to get over it and quit throwing stones in glass houses. The NCAA's Yeager told you bama was the "dirtiest ever" program encountered by the NCAA. Bush's USC deal with the NCAA did not even get compared to the bama plan-o-gram o success so once again, stop throwing stones and hit the turd blogs where you belong.

Cecil should have stayed away, but I understand why he came to the stadium at the end of the game. His terrible actions cost him sharing many incredible moments this year with his son. He wanted to share Cam's last college moments of a stellar season. It is as simple as that.

Very simple, the same AU fan that supplied the $200,000 supplied Cecil with a ticket! HAHAHAHA

If all you need is the name of the hotel to make it legit, then he was at the Renaissance Hotel. It is the only hotel within walking distance to the stadium (which you would know if you did some investigation before writing a blog). I was at the same place watching the game also. If you want more details. The hotel had a big screen setup in the courtyard on the roof. I sat in the right front of the screen and Cecil was in the back left of the courtyard. After the game many people left the hotel and walked to the stadium to celebrate. The hotel is basically across the street. I am not defending anything Cecil did with Mississippe State (not Auburn) but this is a non-issue that bloggers are trying to blow up.

He was not at the game. I watched the game from the same place Cecil did and seen him there. He as at the Renaissance Hotel. You can walk from the Renaissance Hotel to the stadium is a matter of minutes because the stadium is basically across the street. Do not know the facts on what went on with Miss St (as none of you do including MR SEC) but people trying to make him being at the game more than it is.

This truly amazes me. He was not barred from the game by the NCAA only asked not to attend by Auburn for his son's sake. He was staying close enough to come to the stadium after the game. The last time I looked we lived in a free country. Cam is his son and whatever he has done that does not change. I don't see people up in arms because Ohio State played their players and were granted a reprieve until next season. It is truly astounding at how the SEC is constantly maligned. It seems that most people won't be happy unless Auburn loses everything because of something his father did at another school and not Auburn. I too agree that there were some ugly hits by Auburn and I think those players should be reprimanded for it. But this is football and the name of the game is to knock the player down.

Cecil, Cam and AU lie. It's that simple....

Boy, if you people would just listen to yourself! How in the world can you sit up and get pissed off at someone else faults? I can guarantee you that if you take a look at your past life, you have done something too. I don't care what Mr. Newton did. That is his son and you can't expect Cam to turn his back on him. Whatever he did, it will be dealt with. This is a child's career we are talking about. As a Christian, we need to pray for the family and the people who have negatives motives, including what Mr. Newton did, behind what they did. I have adult children too and if we make them think that everything we do is correct, how are they gonna come to you as a parent and talk about what they did wrong. Now if you feel that this is to badger the ones against the situation with Cam, then you need to think again. Your loved one can do something to embarrass you or the family. Remember, it is not about you. You have lived your life. It is about the kids. We should do anything to support our children. I don't mean to condone the negativity. After all, we didn't make it in this life without making bad decisions, knowledgeable one that is, and had children. We raise our families to not do what we did. Maybe if some of your skeletons come out, you would slow down with the judging. As the old people say, keep living. While you are criticizing what someone did, you or a love one will get caught up eventually. Just don't make excuses for them. It's not gonna change the fact that they are human. Enjoy your day and try not to wreck your brain or go to bed with this mess on your mind.

If you are not a Christian with life's experiences to appreciate, I couldn't even expect you to understand what I am saying. It's okay to support your team and want them to win but you guys are taking this too far. I mean, really! I support any SEC team that brings the win home, especially if they are in the state of Alabama. Keep an opened mind. I can assure you of first hand knowledge of corruptions that happens in the southern schools. Be careful how you put stuff out there. Remember, we have children and friends children who have had and currently have enrolled in some of these SEC schools. Don't let your ship sink. Remember, the titanic never came up. I guess the good thing about this internet communication is, you guys can be and say what you want to say behind the screen. That is why people are so aggressive on these chat lines. SMH!

Get a life people. How is Auburn supposed to control he movements of a free citizen (maybe Auburn was supposed to lock Cecil in a trunk), and why would anyone expect a Father not to see his son on the biggest night of his life despite what bad jusdgement he Father exhibited? This has become a ridiculous witch hunt. Heck all you people saying Auburn did something wrong are totally off base. MSU received the alleged offer from Cecil and still recruited Cam and didn't report to the NCAA until later. Auburn is totally clean in comparison since all they did was recruit Cam, and I' not saying MSU should be accused of anything either. Cecil did a stupid thing, and who knows what realy happened with Kenny Rogers (an MSU booster, etc.) , but trying to link Auburn's athletic department or PR group to this or anything Cecil does on his own is stupid. What "truth" exactly are you all so sure will come out? Auburn had no knowledge of this, no money was exchanged, and Cam was not in cahots with his Dad. Nuff said.

You will soon find that money did in fact change hands, lots of money, lots of times. Keep your eyes on the news.

AUFan and Linda...

So you don' t think the media ask questions about a man who admitted to trying to sell his son's services for $180,000? I'm sure if he were wearing crimson and white you'd all be just as quick to blame the press for "making a mountain out of a mole hill."

Who Cares...

No one cares if Cam hugged his dad after the game was over. But since every newspaper in the state of Alabama picked up on the photo snapped by an Auburn/Opelika paper, it's evident that many people DO care that Newton was in attendance even though Auburn officials said he wouldn't be. Either AU officials lied -- very doubtful -- or Newton lied to AU officials about his intentions. If he lied to AU officials, I would think you would see the concern... since AU has based many of its decisions regarding Cam on conversations with his father.

Or maybe he just changed his mind and wanted to be there for his son. Being how he's Cam's father he has that right. The press is making a mountain out of a mole hill, again.

There is a large Renaissance Hotel only a couple of hundred yards from the stadium. If Cecil left as soon as the game was over he could have certainly walked into the stadium within 5-10 minutes. Perhaps his mother told Cam that his dad was on the way over. I don't really care one way or the other. Auburn tried to keep him out of the game but its a free country. We signed Cam not Cecil. Who cares if Cam hugged his dad after the game was over?

How did Cam know he was in the stadium? Seems to be a major point in this discussion.
