SEC Headlines – 12/20/10

It’s Christmas week and most folks are trying to sneak in some vacation days.

That goes for writers across the SEC as well as many of our readers.  Well, we’re joining in with a little break, too.

Oh, we’ll still give you the big stories and the league’s headlines this week, but we’re going to try to run with a light schedule.

That said, here are today’s headlines…

1.  Newsflash: Alabama and Auburn aren’t nearly as good in basketball as they are in football.

2.  Gus Malzahn says he won’t tinker too much with Auburn’s offense before the BCS title game.

3.  Arkansas defensive coordinator Willy Robinson — “You’re name’s not William… it’s Willy” — sees a comparison between Cam Newton and Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor.

4.  ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” didn’t paint a great picture of Les Miles yesterday.

5.  Dan Mullen’s confidence works for Mississippi State.

6.  Junior MSU O-lineman Quentin Saulsberry wants to check his NFL draft status.

7.  Ole Miss’ basketball team is dealing with travel issues.

8.  Fresh off a big win over #6 Kansas State, Florida will try to avoid a letdown against Jacksonville tonight.

9.  Gator footballers are happy with Will Muschamp… now they want to know who his assistants will be.

10.  UF corner Janoris Jenkins will “probably” jump to the NFL.

11.  If Georgia wideout AJ Green turns pro early, look for Michael Bennett to emerge as a candidate to replace him.

12.  Tight end Orson Charles has provided consistent production for the Dawgs.

13.  John Calipari isn’t happy with the play of Terrence Jones.  “He has some numbers, but they’re not real.”

14.  Coach Cal is supposedly considering coaching the Dominican Republic’s national team.

15.  Freshman tailback Marcus Lattimore is becoming a leader for South Carolina.

16.  Carolina will go 1s versus 1s in bowl practice.

17.  Derek Dooley likes quarterback Tyler Bray’s laid-back attitude.

18.  Bruce Pearl says his team recognizes its weaknesses following a pair of upsets last week.

19.  Now comes the tough part for James Franklin… recruiting to Vanderbilt.

20.  One final interesting blurb from this weekend — If you’ve heard that teams can practice 15 times leading up to a bowl… you’ve been misinformed.  There is no limit to the number of bowl practices a team can hold.
