Report: Mullen Already Offered The UF Job

Get ready for the candidates lists…

Dan Mullen – The King David Show in 1010 WQYK-AM in Tampa is reporting: “Our sources in Gainesville telling us Dan Mullen has already been offered the Florida job.”  One positive for Florida out of Urban Meyer’s resignation…it makes Miami’s search take a big backseat.  The Miami Herald reports that UM athletic director Kirby Hocutt spoke with Mullen in New York this week.

Kyle Whittingham — If Mullen isn’t the guy, don’t be surprised to see Jeremy Foley go after another former Meyer aide.  Whittingham has kept Utah among the nation’s elite since Meyer’s departure six years ago.  This year his team went 10-2 and everyone in the SEC remembers the beatdown his Utes put on Alabama in the Sugar Bowl following the 2008 season.

Bob Stoops — Steve Spurrier’s former defensive coordinator always comes up when Florida has a vacancy, but don’t expect Oklahoma’s coach to move East.  Even if offered.

Jon Gruden – Hell, he’s on everybody’s else’s list.  The man is waiting for the next great pro gig.  UF officials would be wise not to flirt with him.  Whittingham and Mullen are more proven in the college game than Gruden is.

Mike Shannahan — Foley has a connection to Shannahan, but this one is about as likely as Florida bringing back Ron Zook.

Charlie Strong
– Speaking of bringing people back, some are already speculating that Foley might turn to Louisville’s head coach.  Mullen has two years of experience as a top gun, Strong has one.  Unlikely.

Steve Spurrier
— He did go into Gainesville and win this year, but no one should expect a Spurrier-Foley reunion.

Hands off Mullen, I really hope he doesn't leave the Magnolia State, but to face the facts, Mullen could very well leave for Florida January 2nd, because Meyer will coach the bowl game. Maybe if Mullen has taken the job behind the scenes is why Meyer is coaching the bowl game.
