As it stands now, provided it can become bowl-eligible, Kentucky looks headed to the Liberty Bowl for a Dec. 31 game against the Conference-USA champion.
There’s only one problem with that scenario.
There’s another little game going on that day.
Kentucky plays at Louisville in basketball on Dec. 31 at noon.
Would the UK administration go for a New Year’s Eve bowl game, on same day as the UK-U of L basketball game? Would the Cats have any choice, given that the SEC office has much to do in deciding which teams go to which bowls?
Of course, if Kentucky wins Saturday, beats Vanderbilt, but loses at Tennessee, the Cats could drop down to the Birmingham Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 8.
That could happen if Tennessee sweeps its final four games, beating Memphis, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and UK. And that could happen, which would make the Vols 6-6 and put Derek Dooley’s club in Memphis for the Liberty Bowl. UK would then drop down to Birmingham to play a Big East team.
Did someone say Louisville?
