Carolina Dealing With A Number Of Tragedies

The suicide of former Gamecock star Kenny McKinley isn’t the only tragedy that the South Carolina football family is dealing with this week.

The brother of cornerback CC Whitlock was fatally shot on Sunday.  Also, offensive lineman Garrett Chisolm missed last Saturday’s game following the death of his father.

Steve Spurrier expects both Whitlock and Chisolm to play at Auburn this weekend.  “(Whitlock’s) going through some grieving and counseling as we all are.  He’s going to try to play this week.  He said he wants to be with my team and play.  Hopefully, we can make that happen also.”

According to The Anderson Independent Mail, Spurrier has counselors, a psychologist and the team’s chaplain available for his players.

“(Monday’s) event with Kenny McKinley is certainly something we will try to handle the appropriate way.  Then we have to try to move on and get ready to play a ballgame.  Our team has set a lot of goals for this year.  This is a crucial game for us in trying to achieve our goals.”

As callous as it may sound, life must go on for Carolina’s football team.  It will be interesting to gauge this team’s emotional state come Saturday.
