1.  Bama head coach Nick Saban will be honored in his home state of West Virginia.  (Hopefully no political candidate will crack wise about him.)

2.  The basketball Tide will face Oklahoma State in Oklahoma City in December.

3.  Former walk-on Lamer Abel is the second player associated with the Florida program to die in the past three years. 

4.  Florida’s Billy Donovan is preparing to deal with high expectations again in Gainesville.

5.  The Gator coach said reserve guard Nimrod Tishman didn’t want to return if it meant another year without playing time.

6.  Donovan said he has done a lot of research into the background of troubled signee Cody Larson.

7.  This fan/writer believes that Damon Evans’ hiring of Mark Fox was a coup for Georgia.

8.  Kentucky receiver Randall Cobb has been named to Athlon’s preseason All-America team.

9.  John Calipari is trying to line up a game in Portland for incoming Oregonian signee Terrence Jones.

10.  For the record, Calipari says that Jones contacted him after committing to Washington, not the other way around.

11.  Vanderbilt has added a linebacker / long snapper to its 2010 signing class…

12.  But I laughed at the accompanying headline in Nashville’s The City Paper: “Vanderbilt signs long snapper to fortify oft-used kicking game.”

13.  Has any SEC quarterback had a tougher offseason than South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia?
