Kentucky Tops College Basketball Talk

Last year, when Kentucky fans learned that their school had just hired the head basketball coach from Memphis, a simple equation probably popped into most of their heads:

John Calipari + Kentucky’s Name = Recruiting Gold.

So far that equation has been proven true.  Again and again.

As we told you yesterday, UK’s 2010 haul has pushed the Wildcats to the top of most recruiting rankings for the second straight year.  In fact, if you just pick out a recruiting story from anywhere on the web today, you’re likely to find the word “Kentucky” splattered all across it.

Take for example Luke Winn’s latest piece on  Of his “10 biggest developments of spring recruiting” exactly half have some tie back to the Wildcats.

1.  Terrence Jones’ decision to put on a show and initially commit to Washington — when he wasn’t really sure what he would wind up doing — should teach future stars to focus on making their college decision rather than on how they’ll announce their college decision.

2.  Jones’ flip-flop from Washington to Kentucky left the Pac-10 without a single Top 20 recruit.

3.  The loss of 2011 point guard Marquis Teague to Kentucky confirms that Louisville and Rick Pitino are in a down-cycle.

4.  Brandon Knight was a trailblazer by deciding to sign a financial aid agreement — rather than a Letter of Intent — with UK.

5.  “Despite the NBA rumors, Calipari’s Recruiting Domination Tour continued.”

John Calipari + Kentucky’s Name = Recruiting Gold.  Again.
