UF and Georgia are hammering out the details in their contract to keep the annual rivalry game in Jacksonville through 2016.
One of those details calls for a potential sponsor of the contest, formerly known as the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail party.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the details of the contract negotiation on Friday after receiving the latest draft of a proposal through an Open Records Request:
According to the latest draft, dated May 21, the schools “shall exclusively own and control all worldwide rights for promotion, marketing, sponsorships, merchandising and ancillary events . . . including without limitation the rights to enter into a title sponsorship agreement for each … game [and] enter into other sponsorship and marketing agreements. . . .”
However, Georgia associate athletics director of external operations Alan Thomas told the AJC that the schools have no plans to sell the naming rights. They simply wanted to have control over the possibility.
