The SEC In The NFL Draft

It’s NFL draft night in America!

First, as a draft junkie, I don’t like the fact that the NFL has made the draft a three-day event that now begins on Thursday.  I also don’t like the fact that it’s being held at night, because if you’re a fan of a good team, your squad likely won’t make a pick until after 11pm EST.  Oh, and the idea to “red carpet” the event in an attempt to appeal to softcore fans doesn’t sit well with a harcore fan like me, either.

So let’s re-punctuate that first sentence:  It’s NFL draft night in America.

With the draft on everyone’s mind, I did a little tabulating using the NFL’s official draft lists and the SEC’s standings for the past decade.  Below I’ve broken things down for you by school… just so you can see who’s had the most talent to work with over the past few seasons.

The first column shows you how many players were drafted from each SEC school last year.

The next column shows all of the players picked from a school between 2005 and 2009.  Next to that I’ve listed each school’s regular-season conference wins for the preceding seasons (2005-2009 drafts would have coincided with 2004-2008 seasons).

One column over you’ll find all of the players picked between 2000 and 2004.  And then you’ll see the regular-season conference wins for 1999-2003.

The last column shows you the first-round draft picks from each school over the last five years.
