SEC East Headlines – 4/21/10

1.  Tim Tebow has made it official and decided not to attend tomorrow’s NFL draft in New York.

2.  Drafting Tebow will require patience and faith on the part of an NFL franchise.

3.  Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher has said that he wouldn’t mind facing Florida in a season-opener in Atlanta a couple of years in a row.  (They’d have to do it that way because neither school would want to give up its turn in the schools’ home-and-home series.)

4.  Three former Georgia defensive tackles are ready for the NFL.

5.  Anybody surprised to learn the UGA football players have lower SAT scores than students in the general student population?  I think that would be the case at every SEC program not ending in “derbilt.”

6.  Now that the spotlight is on quarterback Aaron Murray… will he flourish?

7.  Joker Phillips has brought in “a whole new intensity and atmosphere to Kentucky football.”

8.  Randall Cobb was the only player in the SEC last year to tally 300 yards of rushing, receiving, punt returning and kick returning yardage.

9.  Brandon Knight is signing a financial aid offer rather than a National Letter of Intent because it gives him a way out should John Calipari leave UK.

10.  Former Gamecock defensive end Clifton Geathers is ready to become the fourth member of his family to be drafted into the NFL.

11.  This writer believes Steve Spurrier will coach for two more years, grab a $1 million longevity bonus, and then retire at 67.  (At which point, it’s go time.)

12.  Darrin Horn assistant Cypheus Bunton is seeing his pay sliced in half as he moves into a player development role with the Cocks’ program.

13.  Former Tennessee safety Eric Berry could become that rare defensive back chosen in the top five picks of the NFL draft.

14.  Berry proved how much one player can impact a program.

15.  The current Volunteer team still faces several questions as summer approaches.
