SEC East Headlines – 4/1/10

1.  Emmanuel Moody believes it’s time for Florida’s running backs to step up.

2.  So far so good according to Steve Addazio.

3.  John Brantley is becoming a vocal leader in the huddle.

4.  According to this writer, Brantley has had a good spring, “not a great one.”

5.  Will receiver Marlon Brown break out in 2010 after a quiet freshman season?

6.  Second-team offensive lineman Chris Burnette is earning some praise in Athens.

7.  Finding depth on the O-line has been a challenge.

8.  UGA’s defensive backs will be looking back for the ball more AND giving less cushion to receivers this fall.

9.  Last year’s starter at tailback early in the season — Richard Samuel — has moved from RB to OLB to ILB… and still might be redshirted this season.

10.  Mark Fox is trying to add North Carolina to Georgia’s 2010-11 schedule.

11.  Kentucky outside linebacker Matt Lentz is giving up football due to a string of concussions.  (I hate to see anyone have to give up football, but the brain is not something you want to mess around with.)

12.  The father of UK freshman Daniel Orton says his son will enter the NBA draft but will not hire an agent…

13.  But the younger Orton released a statement through UK later stating that he is still trying to decide what to do.

14.  This writer defends John Calipari and one-and-doners.  And don’t bother trying to use facts to show that teams with one-and-doners usually don’t win the national title.

15.  Three former Gamecocks went through Carolina’s Pro Day yesterday, but they have their college degrees as fallback plans.

16.  Former linebacker Eric Norwood benefited from returning to Columbia for his senior season last year.

17.  Seth Emerson of The State puts forth an excellent argument against expanding the NCAA tournament.  (As we wrote last month, Emerson wonders how the NCAA can use missed classes as an excuse not to have a football playoff when it’s increasing the number of classes basketball players will miss.)

18.  Here’s a look at the bonuses Derek Dooley can earn at Tennessee.

19.  Dooley’s salary will start at $1.8 million and top off at $2.3 million in the sixth year of his contract.

20.  Bruce Pearl is excited about the direction of UT’s basketball program.

21.  Vanderbilt’s Jermaine Beal will be looking to win the three-point contest at the Final Four this week.
