An LSU-To-Bama Transfer Makes A Statement That Tiger Fans Will Notice

I’m guessing LSU fans have already seen this story and read these quotes.  In fact, I’m guessing they’ve already added them to a growing dossier marked, “The Case Against Les Miles.”

Defensive back Phelon Jones owns two BCS championship rings.  The first he won as a member of LSU’s 2007 title-winning squad.  The second he won last year as he sat out a transfer year in Tuscaloosa, practicing with the Tide.

His father, Tony Jones, is a high school coach himself.  He’s had two older sons play college football, too.  The man should know something about coaching.

Of (Nick) Saban, the elder Jones says he’s seen none finer.  “What gets me is the amount of detail Coach Saban can gather on one play.  I stood with a group of (high school) coaches (at a recent Alabama practice).  We’d see three things a player didn’t do just right.  Coach Saban would see six things.  I don’t see how he does it. … And things are so organized.  I walked away a better coach.”

His son is also a big believer in his new coach.  “He told me, ‘Daddy, in the short time I’ve been here under Coach Saban, I’m twice the football player I was before I got here.’”

Yep.  I bet the anti-Miles crowd down on The Bayou has already filed that one away for use during the fall.

(For more on Saban, ESPN.com’s Chris Low has put together a great piece today examining Saban’s belief that coaching is NOT just a job.)
