SEC East Headlines – 2/10/10

1.  This sounds a bit like spin to me, but could Florida’s offense be even better next year (without Tim Tebow, Aaron Hernandez and Riley Cooper)?

2.  Tonight against South Carolina, Billy Donovan’s team hopes to cut out the late-game turnovers that have plagued them of late.

3.  Carolina’s Devan Downey (30.9 ppg in SEC play) has a bum ankle but is expected to play.  When asked how to defend him, Donovan said, “Go to church and pray.”

4.  Freshman point guard Vincent Williams has had to grow up in a hurry for Georgia.

5.  Athletic director Damon Evans compared Travis Leslie to Dominique Wilkins when he said, “He’s another human highlight film”

6.  Ah, but who’s the better dunker… Leslie or Kentucky’s John Wall?

7.  The Dawgs will be looking for their first road win of the season tonight at Auburn.

8.  Kentucky didn’t take care of the ball, but they did take care of Alabama last night.

9.  As we told you earlier today, Wall and DeMarcus Cousins pulled a double double-double against the Tide.

10.  Cat fans saw the same positives — and negatives — from their team overall.

11.  UK’s team has been photographed in new uniforms… but there’s an issue with Wall’s jersey.  That or I’ve been misspelling KENTCUKY all these years.

12.  Carolina’s basketball team has a sense of urgency heading into tonight’s game with Florida.

13.  Downey rolled his ankle in practice Monday… missed practice and wore a protective boot yesterday… but expects to play tonight.

14.  USC will need a few players not named “Downey” to score.

15.  Eric Berry was by his lonesome when he picked up the Jim Thorpe Award… and Tennessee officials are getting ripped for it.

16.  Bruce Pearl said after Vanderbilt’s 90-71 win last night that the Commodores “were more physical than us and tougher than us.”

17.  Tennessee needs to get off to better starts on the road.

18.  This writer says UT’s “aimless performance was a throwback to the bad old days” of Wade Houston.  Wow.

19.  Vandy, on the other hand, took things to a “higher gear.”

20.  They did so without three-point gunner John Jenkins who spent yesterday in the hospital with a severe stomach virus.

21.  The Commodores knocked down 37 of 43 free throw attempts… the most they had hit or attempted during the Kevin Stallings’ era.

22.  Pearl said Vandy presents his team with a tough matchup this year “because of their size, their athleticism, their balance.”
