Boise television station KBOI is reporting that “multiple sources” within the Boise State athletic department say it’s “a done deal” between Tennessee and BSU defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox.
According to the report, Wilcox was hired by Derek Dooley last night and made an announcement to the team today. He has been the defensive coordinator for Boise State the last four years.
The Idaho Statesman — that’s a newspaper, not just a well-spoken guy from Idaho — writes that “the former University of Oregon player is considered a rising name in the profession, and received wide praise for the Broncos’ defensive effort in their 17-10 victory over TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.”
Under Wilcox, the Broncos had the top-ranked defense in the traditionally defense-free WAC the last two years. Below are BSU’s defensive numbers under Wilcox the past two seasons (and the Broncos’ rank in the nine-team league). In WACky fashion, the conference’s official website only includes the numbers from each team’s eight conference games. So these are pure WAC versus WAC numbers:
