The Joker’s Wild, Steals D-Line Coach From MSU

Over the weekend, new Kentucky coach Joker Phillips lured offensive line coach Mike Summers from Arkansas back to his home state.

Now Phillips has raided Mississippi State’s staff.

Defensive line coach David Turner will leave MSU to take over the same role in Lexington.  Turner was a holdover from Sylvester Croom’s last staff in Starkville.

As with Summers, there’s a UK connection for Turner.  He coached the Wildcats’ defensive ends in 1993 and 1994… while Phillips served as the Cats’ receivers coach.

This leaves State searching for both a defensive coordinator and a defensive line coach.  Turner had spoken to Dan Mullen about the DC job, but clearly, didn’t land it.

Phillips still has one more hole to fill on his staff… replacing himself as receivers coach.  Strong rumors indicate that former UK receiver and graduate assistant Gerad Parker is set to land that slot.  He has spent the past two seasons coaching receivers at Tennessee-Martin.
