Merry Christmas; Morning Notes

First up, thanks to my partner Mike Mitchell for posting some stories for you yesterday.  I was out of pocket and away from my computer.

Second, Mike, myself and Josh Ward all wish you and your family the best Christmas and holiday season possible.  Not unlike the Santa at left.

Below you’ll find a few nuggets from across the SEC this holiday morning:

1.  Alabama fans should thank veteran assistant Joe Pendry for their offensive line’s quick development this year.

2.  Mark Ingram’s Heisman-winning season has been a source of joy for his jailed father.

3.  Here’s a look back at the impact of Gene Chizik’s first recruiting class at Auburn.

4.  This writer believes Alabama fans need some humility while Auburn fans nee some historical perspective.

5.  Arkansas’ coaches have been trying to balance Liberty Bowl preps with a hectic recruiting schedule.

6.  UA basketball coach John Pelphrey says he’s focused on his team, not his job security.

7.  Massive LSU left tackle Ciron Black shares a special bond with a 10-year-old leukemia patient.  (Good story.)

8.  Quiet Tiger basketball coach Trent Johnson takes an under-the-radar approach with his charity involvements.

9.  Oklahoma State coaches are worried about Mississippi’s Dexter McCluster.

10.  The NCAA believes it has found someone “off the record” who can prove that the family of Renardo Sidney took illegal benefits while their son was in high school.  These violations have nothing to do with Mississippi State… though they would keep Sidney from be cleared to play.

11.  Florida defensive end Carlos Dunlap is trying to rebuild his tarnished image.

12.  This writer wonders what happened to the Gator basketball team.

13.  The return of AJ Green should be a big help to Georgia’s offense in the Independence Bowl.

14.  Despite a winter storm, the Bulldogs did reach Shreveport yesterday.

15.  This writer believes Shreveport will serve as the slap Georgia’s program needs.  (Again, the city of Shreveport must make a lot of money from its bowl because it certainly puts up with being the butt of a lot of jokes each December.)

16.  Kentucky football players aren’t thrilled to be in Nashville for Christmas… rather than with their families.

17.  Randall Cobb has shaved his head to show support for a 13-year-old leukemia patient.

18.  John Calipari partnered with Lexington’s Urban League to deliver gifts this holiday season.

19.  South Carolina will be at full strength for the Bowl.

20.  Virginia Tech will be without their most experienced cornerback against Tennessee in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

21.  Bruce Pearl has a Christmas wish (or I guess in his case a Hanakkuh wish): better point guard play.

22.  The secondary violation committed by Vandy should not affect the long-term eligibility of juco quarterback Jordan Rodgers.
