Morning Wrap And Big Stories – 7/24/09 – Part Two

Some more morning notes from across the conference:

If you don’t like Tim Tebow — or don’t want to like Tim Tebow — then you better not read this.

Jevan Snead said he avoids reading his own press clippings.

We wrote months ago that 2009 could be another bad year for SEC quarterback play.  Now that’s one of the big stories of SEC Media Days.

John Calipari has launched a new website… and there’s a version in Chinese as he continues to try to build a recruiting base in China.

Unlike past years, this season’s Kentucky-Louisville game won’t feature top-name quarterbacks.

No worries, Rich Brooks expects an offensive revival in Lexington this year.

Georgia’s group at SEC Media Days is glad the spotlight is on someone else this year.

Florida — it’s believed — will become the first team to ever be a unanimous pick during Media Days to win its division.

New Georgia quarterback Joe Cox says the talk of Mark Richt possibly being on the hot seat “really bothers” the Bulldog team.

Folks are still talking about moving the Georgia-Florida football game from Jacksonville.

Tony Barnhart isn’t even mentioning Clay Travis by name… that’s how far out of bounds he thinks the internet funnyman stepped in asking about Tebow’s virginity.  Like everyone else in attendance, Mr. Barnhart was wowed by Tebow’s poise.

This writer thinks an early signing period for football is making more and more sense.

Florida’s contingent says they’re more worried about the SEC title than the BCS title.

Signs are pointing to Steve Spurrier as the man who voted Jevan Snead ahead of Tim Tebow.  Of course Spurrier has praised Tebow many times in the past… so we’ll see.

Mark Richt spoke about his longevity yesterday.

Billy Donovan is trying to get into the Josh Selby sweepstakes.  Selby, a top point guard prospect, decommitted to Tennessee earlier this week and is believed to be looking at Nike schools.  Like Florida.

Houston Nutt might have blamed injuries yesterday, but the fact is: when his teams have been picked to finish high, they usually haven’t.

Here’s a notes column that covers all things Ole Miss including the latest on Jamar Hornsby.

Urban Meyer on Snead: “Wow, is that a good looking sucker right there.”

Meyer also says that it could take time for Dan Mullen to implement the spread at MSU because “it’s a complicated offense.”

The Jackson Clarion-Ledger ranks Houston Nutt as just the third most important man to Ole Miss’ 2009 season.  Dock his pay!
