Georgia News – 6/10/09

Here are the headlines from Georgia today:

Mark Richt has lessened his off-season schedule this summer because he “was very tired when the season started last year.”

Richt’s team will actually be relatively injury-free when August practice starts… a big change from last season.  “We feel like when camp starts, 95 to 98 percent of the team will be able to go with no limitations.”

Offensive lineman Vince Vance (who sounds like he should have fronted a 1950s rock band) said this week that “The big thing this year is going to be a team effort, being that we don’t have Knowshon (Moreno) or (Matthew) Stafford, everybody’s going to be worried.  We’re not worried because we still have a team.”

Backup safety John Knox — who transferred to Georgia Military College last month over academic issues — is not expected to return to Athens once his grades are in order.

In basketball news, back in 2003, Georgia decided to replace Jim Harrick with Dennis Felton.  Their second choice?  Tim Floyd, who just resigned at Southern Cal amidst the OJ Mayo scandal.  Suddenly the Felton hire doesn’t look as bad.
