SEC Meetings: Day One Wrap, Part Two

Here’s another bundle of links to coverage of the SEC Meetings:

Mike Slive said yesterday that “The focus of what we do should be on the kids.  I emphasize that in the long-term interest of the conference.  The attention should be on the reason we’re here.  The reason we’re here is to give young women and men a chance to compete.  The focus should be more on them than anyone else.”

(Please.  That might have been the reason college athletics began originally, but the reason “we’re here” now is money.  Lots of it.  College sports is a business and mud-slinging coaches could prove bad for business if the NCAA starts sniffing around SEC programs.)

Slive also wants to see SEC teams schedule tougher opponents in basketball.  “The (selection) committee looks at the entire body of work, November and December isn’t exhibition season.”

Tony Barnhart of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution expects the relationship between Urban Meyer and Lane Kiffin to remain chilly.

Nick Saban isn’t going to join the Twitter crowd.  “I can’t even send an email or a text message.”

Houston Nutt talked with ESPN.com’s Chris Low about handling expectations, the youth on his offensive line and the mental development of Greg Hardy.

CBS will have two double-headers on their tv schedule this year: October 10th and November 14th.  The games that will be televised haven’t been selected yet.
