Are You “Kiffin” Me? A Twitter Violation For UT?

By now, you know that I have no understanding of the Twitter craze.  (You also know that you can follow us on Twitter.)

But if I told you that one coach in the conference might be tied to a Twitter controversy — Con-twit-versy, if you will — who would you guess that coach might be?

Uh-huh.  Lane Kiffin.  And you’re right.

Yesterday afternoon, the following post appeared on Kiffin’s Twitter account:

“It’s a beautiful day in Knoxville, Tennessee today.  I was so excited to hear that JC Copeland committed to play for the Vols today!”

One problem, there.  It’s a secondary violation for a coach to mention the name of a recruit (as Kiffin found out when he mentioned the name of future Vol signee Bryce Brown on radio show in January).

The post was taken down shortly after it appeared.

Now, if you read the above post and compare it to other posts on the page, you’ll figure out that the coach probably didn’t write that one.

In fact a spokesman for Tennessee told WATE-TV in Knoxville that a new employee who was a bit “gung-ho” about helping the coach made the post.

UT will file the proper paperwork with the SEC office because of the violation.

So this one isn’t on Kiffin, but you can bet that part of the story will never make the rounds.  This will surely provide columnists and rival fans with more ammunition against the Vols’ top guy.

And they already have enough to hold a Dean Martin Celebrity Roast.
