Last Minute Tourney Talk From Across The SEC

Here’s your schedule for today’s SEC Tournament action:

Kentucky vs Ole Miss, 1pm EST
Mississippi State vs Georgia, 3:15pm EST
Alabama vs Vanderbilt, 7:30pm EST
Florida vs Arkansas, 9:45pm EST

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here are some final views, observations, notes, points, blogs, blurbs, and columns covering today’s SEC tourney:

This year’s tourney is a chance for the league to prove itself to bracket experts like Jerry Palm who said, “All the SEC is this year is LSU, Tennessee and a bunch of NIT teams.”

The teams who’ve combined to win 15 of the last 17 SEC tournaments (Kentucky, Florida and Mississippi State) are all in NCAA Tournament trouble.

Philip Pearson says that sometimes the talk of an up-for-grabs tournament isn’t “as true as we’d like to make it.  But when you look at it this year, it’s as wide open as I can ever remember it.”

Here’s how one paper tries to handicap the tourney.

The State in Columbia provides five SEC Tournament storylines to follow this year.  They also provide a list of 12 players to watch.

Rick Stansbury and other league coaches are still talking up Atlanta and wondering what kind of attendance they’ll see in Tampa.

Not only are ticket sales down this year, but there’s been a 15% drop in media covering this year’s tourney.  (Probably because newspapers are, sadly, dying.)

Chip Towers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that “Tampa seems like a relative foreign outpost for the SEC.”

Mr. Towers also wonders which team might become this year’s version of Georgia.

And finally, Jeremy Fowler of The Orlando Sentinel provides you with a list of 10 things you have to know heading into today’s tournament.
