Around The SEC East – 3/31/09

There is news outside of Lexington today and we’ll start in the SEC East.

UGA:  In the spring, the advantage goes to the defense.  So it might not be a great sign for Willie Martinez that Georgia’s offense controlled the Bulldogs’ first scrimmage of the year.

UGA:  Mark Richt said, “I would say we’ve got a long way to go yet.  I really would,” after the scrimmage.

UGA:  The Dawgs suffered another injury at defensive end yesterday and have just two scholarship ends healthy at the moment.

UGA:  Linebacker Darryl Gamble had to move to end in yesterday’s scrimmage.

UGA:  One of Georgia’s top signees will likely miss the season due to back surgery.

UF:  Just four practices into spring and Urban Meyer is already disappointed in his offense.

UF:  Injuries along the offensive line aren’t helping matters.

UF:  Speaking of offense, who is best suited to replace Percy Harvin?

UF:  Pat Dooley of The Gainesville Sun believes the Gators need to get better on defense this season.

UF:  In basketball news, as we told you yesterday, Nick Calathes is
entering his name
into the NBA Draft pool, but he’s not hiring an agent.

UF:  If he leaves, Florida could be looking at yet another rebuilding year.

UT:  Lane Kiffin, in between shaking hands and kissing babies at a fan function yesterday, said that top signee Bryce Brown is the best high school tailback he and Ed Orgeron have seen since Reggie Bush.

UT:  Regarding his quarterback race, Kiffin said, “We just haven’t see enough of those guys, and Nick (Stephens) hasn’t been able to do everything.  We’ve got a long way to go.”
