Around The SEC East – 3/30/09

Here are your SEC East summaries and links for the day:

UF:  It’s time for defensive linemen Earl Okine and Omar Hunter to start producing in Gainesville.

UF:  Here’s a rather bizarre Q&A with Florida running back Jeff Demps in which he discusses both death and the wind.  Yeah, the wind and death.

UF:  You can expect Billy Donovan to be at Florida for a long, long time to come, writes Jeremy Fowler of The Orlando Sentinel.

UF:  Mike Bianchi, also of The Sentinel, has a little fun with Kentucky fans and their unrequited love for Donovan.

UGA:  Now that Missouri’s Mike Anderson and Oklahoma’s Jeff Capel are out of the NCAA Tournament, are we about to start hearing news on Georgia’s coaching search?  Capel is supposedly the first choice, Anderson the second.

UGA:  Bryan Evans is feeling right at home now that he’s moved to safety.

UK:  As the words “John Calipari,” “Kentucky” and “mega-deal” get more play, John Clay of The Lexington Herald-Leader lists 10 things UK should be looking for in a new coach — “squeaky clean reputation” isn’t on the list.

UK:  Here’s yet another criticism of Billy Gillispie’s people skills and how his failure to “win hearts” had more to do with his firing than his failure to “win games.”  Of course, if he’d won more games, he’d of won a lot more hearts.

UK:  Rich Brooks’ team will finish the season with 11 consecutive weeks of action.

USC:  Wondering if Carolina will find some playmakers for Steve Spurrier’s offense?  Look no further than Stephon Gilmore and Jarvis Giles.

UT:  Bruce Pearl has landed another standout juco point guard to join next year’s team.  Vol fans hope he’ll work out better than Bobby Maze, last year’s standout juco point guard.

UT:  The strength of Tennessee’s football team?  A deep, talented secondary.

Vandy:  Everyone assumes Larry Smith will be the Commodores’ starting quarterback this fall… but Bobby Johnson isn’t naming anyone the starter yet.

Vandy:  Receiver Alex Washington was the star of Vandy’s spring game this weekend.  A good sign considering the lack of depth in VU’s receiving corps.

Vandy:  Redshirt players are becoming the backbone of Johnson’s program.

Vandy:  And that’s a program that was able to hand their players’ rings for the first time since 1982.
