GEORGIA FOOTBALL NOTES – 9/3/08

Georgia’s time at top of the polls didn’t last very long.  Southern Cal has now jumped over the Bulldogs in both polls.  Will that be a motivator for Georgia’s players?

So why did the pollsters drop Georgia following a 45-21 win?  Tony Barnhart of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution tries to provide some explanations… which is basically a lesson in Football Poll Theory.

Terrence Moore of the AJC believes folks in Georgia need to worry about winning games, not rankings.

Looking forward, Georgia better focus on the game at hand and not take take Central Michigan and quarterback Dan LeFevour lightly.  Just remember last year’s game against Troy.

Looking even further forward, Chip Towers of the AJC writes that UGA could be better next year than this year.  Does that mean Georgia folks are starting to doubt their own pre-season hype for this season?  Why start looking ahead now?

John Kaltefleiter is leaving The Athens Banner-Herald as sports editor… and will be replaced by David Ching.  We have nothing against Mr. Kaltefleiter and we wish him well, but Ching is a lot easier to type.  So we’re good with it here at MrSEC.com.
